Community Empowerment

Learn More Get Involved

COMMUNITIES MUST PUT SOME SKIN IN THE GAME!

Recognition of respective socio-cultural protocol paves the way for a path of least resistance when implementing new change process to foster societal transformation. Direct involvement of community leadership and relevant partner positions the program for acceptance, continuity and sustainability.

Volunteer Reenforcement

In a system characterized by limited resources, it is imperative that communities focus more on accomplishing common goals that benefit them long term. A synergistic approach is an effective way of utilizing limited resources towards a common cause. The projects that our organization has undertaken have been a success mainly because the local community managed to showcase a strong volunteer effort. Presently what motivates the donor community in the USA to assist with paving dirt courts in Zimbabwe is the fact that locals volunteer to mold 20,000 farm bricks that are used in the construction process.

The 80/20 Community Sweat Equity Model

Communities must be encouraged to make substantial non-monetary contributions towards developmental projects. The burden sharing approach allows communities to spearhead 80% of community development initiatives while the remaining 20 % comes in the form of support. This approach allows communities to unlock their potential and take ownership of projects that help their communities long term.

Cultivate An Alumni Culture

The idea of giving back to the community, (your school in particular) is foreign in most African communities. Our goal is to cultivate the spirit of going back to a school one attended and identifying ways to improve lives and impact others. In a culture where the concept of alumni is non-existent, our goal is to inspire the younger generation to reach out to their respective villages and start impacting lives.

How we empower local communities

Capacity Building & Sustenance

It is crucial for communities to take full ownership of their plight to unlock their potential and overcome systemic barriers. The self help developmental projects provide a unique window of opportunity to empower & steer underprivileged communities towards self sustainability and accountability.

Less Is More Concept

Because of our African background, we are well aware of the negative impact/misconceptions of too much aid for underserved communities. Our goal is not to solve all the challenges that a community is faced with. We want to give communities a glimmer of hope & unleash their possibilities within their own context. Setting up organized youth programs requires an injection of basic gear for kids.

Sensitivity To Culture

As we continue to impact children's lives, we take into consideration the different cultural backgrounds for each community. We believe total empowerment must be supported by cultural traits and recognition if its going to be effective. Therefore, we navigate carefully around changing societal cultural beliefs as we seek a path of least resistance.

Local Leadership Engagement

In order to create effective buy-in we must initially engage local leadership to instill trust and make the case for program benefit. This strategy eliminates misconceptions about program intent and delivers longevity. Based on our observations, this approach has higher returns on investment & ensures resource accountability for generations to come.

Technical Cooperation Guide

Partnering with game experts provides community leadership with a rare opportunity to run sports programs that teach children sound game fundamentals, a key ingredient for developing a strong passion for the game. Periodic coaching /officiating clinics coupled with donation of basic sports gear on the ground help enhance skill development & boost morale for children. Today hundreds of volunteer coaches have unique access to professional basketball resources, thanks to the kindness of Dr. Jack Ramsay, NBA Legend & Hall of Fame.

80/20 Sweat Equity Model

The thrust behind our program is to encourage locals to spearhead 80% of all community developmental initiatives. Non-monetary contributions demonstrate an element of commitment and dedication which is paramount to unlocking possibilities & lifetime empowerment. Encouraging contribution of any sort helps eliminate the dependency syndrome typically prevalent among needy communities.

A Word From Coach Ramsay

"To win, you have to prepare yourself to win. You have to be ready. You can't expect a W to just happen."
