Building An Awareness Firewall Around Children.

Winning the fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic must incorporate educating children about the dangers associated with the disease. A sound grassroots sports program provides a strategic tool to ignite a sense of urgency towards the plight of children whose parents have succumbed to the HIV/AIDS. Our program captivates children's mind and positions them for healthier lifestyles.

Awareness Without Paranoia

Changing the HIV/AIDS education rhetoric from a negative spin into a positive message paves the way for positive re-enforcement approach when working with children. Winning the fight against HIV/AIDS & future proofing children against peril requires immediate implementation of community based organized sports programs that become teaching grounds of the dangers associated with HIV/AIDS. Our sports based model is designed to captivate kids minds & at the sametime instill Biblical Habit Success Patterns that translate into lifetime skills for kids before falling victim to HIV infection. The use of sport, basketball & soccer in particular creates an ideal platform for Positive Reenforcement in teaching, inspiring, building confidence & self accountability needed to combat social challenges.

Play Based Facial-Paint-Concept

In a culturally conservative environment characterized by limited teaching resources, threading an HIV/AIDS message effectively to children can be extremely challenging. Through our youth sports program, we devised the "Facial-Paint-Concept", a teaching tool that is play based, sensitive to cultural traits, and demystifies enlightening children about the HIV/AIDS. The effectiveness of this ground breaking concept lies in the fact that community leaders easily relate to it without the anxiety of cultural infringement.

The Information Firewall

Overcoming challenges assoiciated with the wrath of HIV/AIDS must begin with making fundamental changes to our strategy in how we build awareness among children. A key step in creating awareness is the development of a social platform that captivates children's mind, energy & perspective of life. Our community based organized youth sports programs present a window of opportunity to dwell on a positive reenforcement & education campaigns. The sports programs allow children to access information in a fun & exciting environment.

The HIV/AIDS Informational Firewall Approach

Removing The Stigma of HIV

In the African context, HIV/AIDS is more of a cultural disease mainly because of the protocol that communities follow. The denial syndrome of it's existence makes it difficult to stop the wrath in its tracks leading to stereotyping and stigmatization of the disease. We train our coaches/mentors to become community health leaders that foster an environment of love and trust, where affected children can come to without fear of segregation. Eliminating the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS must begin with a sound education based strategy that treats boys & girls equally the same. Our goal is to educate children & communities and empower them to make life long decisions.

The Face-Paint Concept

This monumental teaching resource simulates the concept of contracting the HIV/AIDS virus through socio-interaction. With this method, children are split up into different teams assigned to different colors of facial paint. Each team soaks their hands in the respective paint assigned to them. Children then begin to intermingle with kids from other teams shaking hands mimicking casual interaction. After returning to their original camps, children go through the painstaking process of washing their hands clean. They are invited into an interactive conversation about the dangers and after effects of reckless casual encounters.

Early Awareness Drive

The uniqueness & effectiveness of this program is in pursuing the "Avoidance versus Curing" approach. Such a grassroots strategy helps create a "An HIV Infection Fire Wall" that enables kids to focus on educational advancement, abstain from sexual activity, and guarantees long term winning strategy. An organized sport program assigns children to a respective team at an early age in their lives that provides psychological recognition. The power of recognition translates into self worth and value. Recognizing these children in their accomplishments, gives them hope and allows them to keep challenging themselves to achieve better and bigger each year. This fosters a safe environment for competition and the value of hard work.

Orphanage Partnerships

Over the years, terminal illnesses such as HIV/AIDs have robbed kids of the family unit and structure. A lot of kids in these communities are left taking care of themselves, younger siblings or wind up in orphanages due to the death of their parents. We strive to restore hope among orphaned children in a way that communicates that they are valued and that the world cares. Our community based sports programs allows us to access orphaned children in a fun and safe environment. For children, belonging to a structured sports program instills responsibility to oneself and their respective teams. Through the organized sports our community health leaders are able to use that platform to reenforce the risks of HIV and AIDS.
